Summary
Hello, friends. This is Pastor Joe with another episode of the Helping You Become podcast. In this instalment of our "Prevailing Proverbs" series, we dive into Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25, which warn that there's a way that seems right to a person but ends in death. We connect this to Romans 6:20-21, highlighting how, as slaves to sin before salvation, we were free from righteousness, reaping only shame and death. Now, as believers made righteous in Christ, we're called to the opposite: a life of wisdom that mitigates sin and mistakes, increases righteousness, stewardship, productivity, and strong relationships. Ultimately, it's about surrendering to God's will—"not my will, but Yours be done."
Jesus illustrates this in Luke 6:46-49: Those who hear His words and obey are like a house built on rock, unshaken by floods. Those who hear but ignore are like a house on sand, ruined when storms hit. Galatians 6:7 reinforces that we can't mock God; we reap what we sow. So, where do we find a proven, stable, unchanging, reliable, moral, understandable, implementable, ethical, strategic, forward-thinking, multi-generational life code that works anywhere? Look no further than the Book of Proverbs as a starting point. It's pre-packaged divine wisdom for daily living, helping us reduce mistakes and problems. The most dangerous thing is what we don't know, and Proverbs addresses that.
"Prevail" means to persuade, control, influence, gain ascendancy, and triumph. Proverbs' wisdom must prevail over our own, societal, or cultural ideas—triumphing to guide our decisions, emotions, and behaviors. Set aside preconceived notions; embrace God's wisdom. As Jesus asks, why call Him Lord if we don't obey? Build on the rock of His Word for a life that withstands storms.
Join me next time as we continue exploring how Proverbs can transform us. God bless!
