Summary

Hello, friends. This is Pastor Joe from the Helping You Become podcast. In this episode, Part 7 of "Prevailing Proverbs," I delve into the profound wisdom of the Book of Proverbs, authored by Solomon, son of David, king of Israel. I emphasise how this divine wisdom must prevail in our lives—to persuade, control, and triumph over our own flawed societal or cultural insights, guiding our decisions, emotions, and behaviours.

We explore what it means for Proverbs to direct, warn, guide, instruct, correct, steer, admonish, encourage, drive, motivate, and discipline us in a thoughtful way that builds faith, trust, and confidence in the Lord. By prioritising God's wisdom first, we reap the benefits of better decision-making, even if not always perfect.

The key question: How do we achieve this? By making a disciplined choice to allocate time to read, study, and learn Proverbs. Discipline and sacrifice are essential—no pain, no gain. We can't obey what we don't know.

Drawing from Luke 6:47, Jesus outlines three steps: Come to Him (accept Him as Lord, pray, read the Bible), hear His words (read daily, listen to audio Bibles, avoid superficial messages, attend church), and do them (apply what we've learned, though it's a layered process).

I stress time management as crucial. We all have 24 hours daily—redirect it wisely. Be conscious of spending vs. investing time; treat each hour like an employee producing for you. Paul in Ephesians 5:15-16 urges us to live purposefully, making the most of time by buying up opportunities.

Time is our most precious natural gift after salvation—it underwrites everything: work, relationships, growth. Aim for incremental improvement, like 1% better weekly through seed-plan-harvest principles.

To deeply learn Proverbs, try handwriting it out in an easy version like ESV—one hour daily for 31 chapters. It's a transformative discipline.
